Background

Welwitschia Pharmaceutical Wholesalers (Pty) Ltd. was founded in 1997 when the developers of the Welwitschia Medical Centre identified the need for a central buying group for the different medical outlets in the project.

The company started business in March 1998 from premises adjoining the Erongo Clinic in the industrial area. As more stock was bought directly from manufacturers, better pricing structures were negotiated and more clients could be satisfied.

It soon became apparent that more space would be required due to the rapid expansion of the wholesale activities. A modern new building was erected at the Welwitschia Medical Centre and occupied in June 2000, and during 2003 the building was expanded further to accommodate more stock on hand.

Operation

Situated at Walvis Bay Medipark, the wholesalers supplies medicine and disposable items to the following clients:

• Medical practitioners in the Erongo Region
• Private clinics in the Erongo Region
• Retail pharmacies in all the coastal towns
• Physiotherapists, ambulance services, diabetic association, optometrist and veterinary surgeon
• Welwitschia Hospital - wards, theatres and dispensary
• Other hospitals and institutions in the Erongo Region
• Hospitals, clinics and practitioners in the Oshana and Kunene Regions, including Ongwediva Medipark situated in Ongwediva
• Disposable items used in bulk by debilitated patients.
