More about Ongwediva Medipark
"A beautiful and clean facility." "Peaceful surroundings." "Excellent and well managed personal care." These are some of the comments received since Ongwediva Medipark opened its doors to the public.
THE HISTORY:
On 16 October 2003, a delegation of Namibian public officials, doctors, businessmen and professionals, led by the Mayor of Ongwediva His Worship Erastus Uutoni, met with his Excellency Dr. Sam Nujoma President of the Republic of Namibia, at State House.
The delegation visited the President to introduce and launch Ongwediva Medipark, a private hospital and medical centre planned for Ongwediva, in the Oshana region.
Counsellor Uutoni was accompanied by the late Mrs. Auguste Taanyanda, the then CEO of the Town Council of Ongwediva, Dr Tshali Iithete, now Managing Director and Medical Superintendent of Ongwediva Medipark, Mr. David Imbili a local businessman, Dr Brian Roberts and Mr. Matthias Braune of Erongo Medical Services (Pty) Ltd, as well as Mr. Philip Ellis and Ms Brunhilde Barnard of SADConsult (Pty) Ltd.
Ongwediva Medipark is an initiative of Namibian businessman Mr. David Imbili and Dr Tshali Iithete, a medical practitioner. SADConsult (Pty) Ltd a multi-disciplinary consultancy firm was appointed and succeeded in creating a smart partnership including Erongo Medical Services (Pty) Limited, the holding company of the very successful Walvis Bay Medipark and Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay, as well as the dynamic Town Council of Ongwediva, which can rightfully be proud of this major coup by securing this strategically important development in Northern Namibia ahead of other strong contenders in that region.
This major project, which is solely Namibian driven and owned, is financed by Old Mutual MIDINA Fund. Ongwediva Medipark offers the Ongwediva community, and the North at large, first class medical facilities to help alleviate pressure put upon the government to provide adequate health facilities to all the citizens.
Health professionals, who will be based at Ongwediva Medipark, are granted the opportunity to take up shares in the company, ensuring success for both Ongwediva Medipark and themselves. This concept has proven invaluable in the success enjoyed by Walvis Bay Medipark's Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay.
Most importantly however, is the fact that this initiative would bring quality and much needed medical services to the region, which is one of the fastest developing in Namibia.
The opportunity was seized with both hands by the Town Council of Ongwediva who immediately saw the potential of such a medical facility for the town of Ongwediva and the region. Market research has shown that Ongwediva is the ideal location for a private hospital, which caters for the needs of the residents and visitors to the greater Ongwediva-Oshakati-Ondangwa metropole. Angolan residents, who previously traveled to Windhoek, now also have excellent medical facilities much closer to home.
Ongwediva Medipark is based on the concept of a one-stop medical centre, proven successful by Erongo Medical Services and their Walvis Bay Medipark. As with Welwitschia Hospital, the Ongwediva Medipark hospital is conveniently situated with attending Private Practitioners and para-medical service providers practicing from adjacent consulting rooms.
Resident specialists in several disciplines together with visiting specialists from many other disciplines complement the general practitioners in providing medical services for the majority of the community's needs.
The administrative partner in this development, Erongo Medical Services, was established in 1994 by a group of Namibian medical professionals, with the aim of providing high quality, yet affordable health care in a one-stop medical centre in Walvis Bay. Walvis Bay now boasts a health care facility of international standards in the form of the Walvis Bay Medipark and Welwitschia Hospital, which was officially opened by His Excellency, Dr Sam Nujoma 16 October 1998. Erongo Medical Services has also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Indira Gandhi Health Centre at Onemanya and the setting up of a clinic at Epupa Falls in the Kunene region.
THE PRESENT:
On 23 May 2007, Ongwediva Medipark was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba President of the Republic of Namibia.
The modern facility, to be extended in phases, currently consists of a 50-bed hospital and 12 adjacent medical- and para-medical consulting rooms
