As a truly Namibian company, Erongo Medical Services fulfils its role as a Health Care Provider in Namibia and has evolved into a responsible corporate citizen whose social contribution and achievement entails even more:

Human Resources:

  • Since 2000, the company has awarded ten University study bursaries in the medical field (nine of which where granted to previously disadvantaged Namibians) for the following courses:
    • MB ChB                                             3 Bursaries
    • B.PHARM                                           5 Bursaries
    • National Diploma in Radiography          1 Bursary
    • Radiography Assistant                         1 Bursary
  • Erongo Medical Services has continuous training programmes in place and many of its nursing personnel have successfully completed the internationally recognised BLS, ACLS and PALS courses, conducted by the American Heart Association.
  • Erongo Medical Services was the first Namibian private Hospital Group with an accepted Affirmative Action Policy.
  • Employees are assisted with housing requirements.

Local Projects:

  • The Group has donated land adjacent to the private Hospital for the establishment of the Sunshine Centre, a training Centre for physically and mentally challenged children. Support is ongoing by way of building maintenance and purchases of products created by the children.
  • Assistance is rendered to the Jonah Home, another children’s home in Walvis Bay, which offers a safe facility for orphans and abused children.
  • During 2005, EMS donated a VW Kombi vehicle to the Jonah Home for the transportation of the children.
  • EMS contributes financially to projects of CHAIN and the House of Safety in Swakopmund.
  • Support is given to the Walvis Bay Tuberculosis Association, the Namibian Diabetic Association and the Dr Paul Coulson Foundation click here for more information
  • Additional community support is given with the donation of the use of an ambulance vehicle to the St. Gabriel Community Ambulance Service, annual donations to the Mayoral Relief Fund and financial contributions to schools and old age homes.
  • Immunisation days, organised annually by the Ministry of Health and Social Services, are supported both financially and by providing nursing staff and transport vehicles.

National Projects:

  • Assistance to State House since 1998, with the establishment of the Indira Gandhi Maternity Health Centre in rural Okahao.  In this regard, it is notable that the President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. S.S. Nujoma has honoured the Managing Director of the Company by appointing him to serve as a Trustee on the Board of the Indira Gandhi Health Centre Trust Fund, in order to support health care in rural northern Namibia.
  • Assistance to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, with the establishment of a rural clinic building and staff accommodation at Epupa Falls in the Kunene Region.
  • Assistance to the Ministry of Defense with a humanitarian mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1999.

International Projects:

  • EMS was instrumental in the establishment of a Laboratory in Luanda, Angola
  • Financial and technical support has been given to the newly established Evangelical Medical Centre in Lubango, southern Angola.
